Julie Nistad Samsonsen is a Norwegian speed skater, who competed at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, in the Women’s 500m. She is the 13th Norwegian woman in history to run the distance of 500m in under 40 sec.
Julie Nistad Samsonsen was born on April 5, 2000, in Bergen, Norway. She started in winter sports at an early age.
Julie Nistad Samsonsen started her international career in 2017. She competed at the 2017 World Junior Speed Skating Championships in Helsinki at the 500m, 1000m, and team sprint, the 2018 ISU World Cup Short Track in Salt Lake City at the 500m, 1000m, and team sprint, and the 2019 ISU World Cup in Baselga di Pinè at 500m, 1000m, and team sprint. During the competitions, her best results were individual 10th place in 500m and a bronze medal, 3rd place in the team sprint in Baselga di Pinè 2019.
Julie Nistad Samsonsen competed at the 2020 European Single Distances Championships in Heerenveen, finishing in 10th place in 500m. She also competed in the next two European Single Distances Championships in 2021 and 2022, winning the bronze in the team sprint in the second.
The season 2022, was the most successful for the Norwegian speed skater, who won also the bronze at the 2022 World Sprint Championships in Hamarin the team sprint.
Julie Nistad Samsonsen competed at the Beijing 2022 Olympics, finishing 24th in the 500m.
Julie Nistad Samsonsen is also the 13th Norwegian woman in history to run the distance of 500m in under 40 sec. This happened at the Norgescup event in Sormarka Arena in Stavanger on January 6, 2019. Later, on December 4, 2021, during the ISU World Cup Short Track in Salt Lake City, she improved her personal best at 500m to 37.94 sec.
Julie Nistad Samsonsen has two gold and three silver medals from the Norwegian Speed Skating Championships, as well as plenty of golds at the national and international championships.
