The Japanese Mayu Mukaida won the gold in women’s under 53kg wrestling

The two-time world champion in women’s wrestling in the under 53kg category, Mayu Mukaida (Japan), also added Olympic gold to her awards. The representative of Japan won by points with 5-4 against the Chinese Pang Qianyu.

The Chinese took the lead in the first part of the final bout with 4-0 points, but Mayu Mukaida managed to make 5 consecutive points after that and triumphed as a champion. She also has one title at the 2014 Youth Games, as well as a silver medalist at the World Championships in 2017 and 2019.

Mayu Mukaida brought third gold to Japan in women’s wrestling. Earlier, Yukako and Risako Kawai won titles in the 62kg and 57kg categories, respectively. In total, Japan has 24 gold medals and leads the United Kingdom for 3rd place in the medal standings.

In both matches for the bronze medals, the victories are for Bat-Ochir Bolortuya (Mongolia) and Vanesa Kaladzinskaya (Belarus). Vanesa Kaladzinskaya, who lost to China’s Pang Qianyu in the semifinals, beat Jacarra Winchester (USA), who came through repechages, with 4-0 points.

The other bronze medal is for the Mongolian Bat-Ochir Bolortuya, who defeated Joseph Essombe Tiako (Cameroon) with 14-4 points.
