Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates defended their title in the ice dance at the World Figure Skating Championships in Montreal (Canada). The Americans received 222.20 points for their performance, a personal best for the season.
Second is the Canadian pair Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier with 219.68 points, who are the bronze medalists from last year’s World Figure Skating Championships. Two-time European champions Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri (Italy) finished third, collecting 216.52 points.
Madison Chock and Evan Bates, who were making their 11th appearance at the World Figure Skating Championships, are five-time medalists at the world championships.
The top three is the same from Saitama 2023, but the Canadians and Italians have swapped places this time.
Madison Chock, 31, and Evan Bates, 35, are the oldest pair to win a world doubles title. The pair have won every major event except the Olympics, where their best finish was fourth at Beijing 2022.
This could be the last championship of their career. The Americans plan to marry in June and decide on their futures in the sport before the start of each season.
“We have a lot to celebrate coming up and a lot to evaluate before we jump into another season, because it certainly does take a lot of work and a lot of our heart and a lot of things put on hold”, said Madison Chock. “It isn’t out of the realm of possibility, but, also, we’re not going to get ahead of ourselves. We’re going to re-evaluate and see how we feel at the end of the season and after our wedding”, added she.
