Italian biathlete Lisa Vittozzi won the women’s 7.5km sprint of the Biathlon World Cup season at Canada’s Canmore Winter Centre, while overall leader Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold won the event’s small crystal globe despite finishing 17th.
The Norwegian, who committed two shooting faults, remains at the top of the general classification but is just 7 points ahead of Lisa Vittozzi ahead of Saturday’s pursuit and Sunday’s mass start.
“Two misses are too many for me to be satisfied. Eight targets in this discipline are few”, said Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold after the seventh sprint of the season.
Lisa Vittozzi covered the course in 19:38.2 min to finish ahead of Lou Jeanmonnot (France) by 5.5 sec and Lena Haecki-Gross (Switzerland) by 8.6 sec after the trio hit all 10 targets. For the Italian, this is the fourth success of the season and the first in this discipline since Oberhof 2019.
“I finally managed to win a sprint, maybe the last time I did it was four or five years ago. I’m proud of myself, I did the perfect race and I’m very happy”, said Lisa Vittozzi.
Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold leads the overall World Cup standings two starts before the end of the season with 988 points. She is 7 ahead of Lisa Vittozzi, and third is Justine Braisaz-Bouchet (France) with 915 points.
In the final standings for the sprint, Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold is first with 418 points, ahead of Justine Braisaz-Bouchet with 410 points and Lisa Vittozzi with 373 points.
