Anna Bondar is a Hungarian tennis player, who has a career-high WTA ranking of No 50 in singles. She has won 13 ITF and one WTA 125 singles title.
Anna Bondar was born on May 27, 1997, in Szeghalom, Hungary. She started playing tennis at an early age and showed great talent. As a junior, she won the titles at the Wuestenrot Junior Classic U14 and Batta Cup in 2011, ZTK Raiffeisen Open, Talentum Cup Budapest, and Elite Open Novi Sad in 2012, as well as Junior Serbia Open in 2013, when she also reached the semi-finals at the European Junior Championships. In 2015, she won the title at the J300 Klosters \ European Junior Championships, which was her biggest junior achievement.
Anna Bondar made her professional debut in 2014 at the $10,000 Antalya (Turkey), winning her first ITF trophy. During the season she played in both the junior tour and ITF Circuit, reaching the semi-finals of the $10,000 Tel Aviv (Israel) and the quarter-finals of the $15,000 W15 Heraklion (Greece).
In 2015, Anna Bondar continued gaining experience at the ITF Circuit, winning the titles at the $10,000 Sibiu (Romania), $15,000 Bol (Croatia), and $10,000 Antalya (Turkey), as well as the J300 Klosters \ European Junior Championships. Meanwhile, she was runner-up at the $15,000 W15 Heraklion (Greece) and played in the semi-finals of the $10,000 Solarino (Italy).
In 2016, Anna Bondar played the final at the $25,000 W25 Canberra (Australia) and also reached the semi-finals at the $10,000 Velenje (Slovenia) and $15,000 Bol (Croatia).
Anna Bondar won three more ITF titles in 2017 and 2018, winning the $15,000 W15 Heraklion (Greece), $25,000 W25 Kaposvar (Hungary), and $25,000 W25 Seville (Spain) clay tennis tournaments. Meanwhile, she reached the semi-finals at the $15,000 Graz (Austria), $15,000 W15 Szekesfehervar (Hungary), $35,000 W35 Koksijde (Belgium), $25,000 Dobrich (Bulgaria) and $25,000 W25 Riba – Roja de Turia (Spain).
Anna Bondar made her WTA Tour main draw debut in 2019. She played in the WTA 250 Hungarian Ladies Open but lost in the first round. During the season, she played also at the WTA 250 BRD Bucharest Open but again did not overcome the starting round. Meanwhile, at the ITF Circuit, she won the title at the $25,000 W25 Daytona Beach, FL (USA), but also was the runner-up at the $25,000 W25 Plantation, FL (USA), $25,000 W25 Curitiba (Brazil).
In 2020, Anna Bondar did not perform strongly during the season, reaching the second round of the WTA 125 Prague Open and the quarter-finals at the $25,000 W25 Canberra (Bendigo) and $25,000 W25 Grado (Italy).
Anna Bondar got back into form in 2021, winning her first Challenger title at the WTA 125 IEB+ Argentina Open, as well as the trophies at the $80,000 W80 Wiesbaden (Germany) and $60,000 W60+H Santiago (Chile). Meanwhile, during the season she was the runner-up at the $80,000 W80+H Le Neubourg (France) and $25,000 W25 Potchefstroom (South Africa). She also reached the quarter-finals at the WTA 250 BNP Paribas Poland Open.
In 2022, Anna Bondar started the season by reaching the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Open 6eme Sens – Métropole de Lyon and played at her first Masters tournament main draw at the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open, losing in the first round. However, at the WTA 1000 Miami Open and WTA 500 Credit One Charleston Open, she reached the second round, while at the WTA 250 TEB BNP Paribas Tennis Championship Istanbul played in the semi-finals. Anna Bondar reached her first WTA 250 semi-final in May at the WTA 250 Grand Prix Sar La Princesse Lalla Meryem. During the season she reached the semi-0finals at the WTA 250 Hungarian Grand Prix, WTA 125 Budapest Open 125, and WTA 125 Grand Est Open 88.
In 2023, Anna Bondar started the season strongly by reaching the second round of the Australian Open, while in May reached the third round of the WTA 1000 Rome Open. By the end of the season, she played in the semi-finals at the WTA 250 Ladies Open Lausanne and won the title at the $60,000 W60 Montreux (Switzerland).
Anna Bondar won three more ITF titles in 2024, triumphing at the $60,000 W75 Porto (Portugal) and $60,000 W75 Olomouc (Czech Republic). Meanwhile, she was the runner-up at the $60,000 W75 Chiasso (Italy) and $60,000 W75 Bellinzona (Switzerland), but also reached the quarter-finals at the WTA 250 Iasi Open.
