Germany defeated Slovakia to advance to the quarter-finals of the European Women’s Basketball Championship

The German women’s basketball team defeated Slovakia and advanced to the quarter-finals of the European Women’s Basketball Championship. The match took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, where the German team won by 79-69 (21-19, 23-17, 17-12, 18-21).

German basketball players took a lead already in the first half and after very strong third quarter they had an advantage of 13 points. This proved to be enough for the Lisa Thomaidis-led team to finish the match with 10 points lead and qualify for the quarter-finals.

Marie Gulich was the most valuable player in the match with 26 pts, 9 rebs and 4 asts. Leonie Fiebich finished the match with 15 pts, 8 rebs and 5 asts, while Luisa Geiselsoder recorded 8 pts, 4 rebs, and 4 asts.

For Slovakia, Barbora Wrzesinski scored 18 pts, 4 rebs, and 5 asts, while Ivana Jakubcova and Alica Moravcikova added 16 and 13 pts, respectively.

In the next phase, Germany will face Spain, who won their group and qualified directly for the quarter-finals.

In the remaining clashes quarter-finals, Hungary will play the Czech Republic, Montenegro will face with France, and Serbia will continue its title defense against Belgium.
