Brooke Henderson won the LPGA Tour’s season opener Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in the United States. The Canadian golfer won her 13th LPGA Tour victory by four strokes, finishing the fourth round 2-under 70 for an overall score of 16-under par.
Maja Stark (Sweden) and Charley Hull (UK) tied for second at 12 under.
In windy and sometimes difficult conditions, the 25-year-old Canadian Brooke Henderson played steadily, making sure not to give much hope to a group behind her trying to mount any sort of challenge. She led the tournaments from the very beginning and won it undoubtedly.
Fourth in the standings was Nelly Korda (USA) with 11 under, while fifth was Nasa Hataoka (Japan) with 9 under.
“It is so exciting. I always try to win a couple of times each year, so to get one right way out of the gate takes a little bit of pressure off”, said the Canadian golfer. “It’s exciting to be in contention, and even more exciting to hoist trophies”, added she.
Brooke Henderson finished 2022 seventh in the Rolex rankings and third in the Race to CME Globe rankings. However, 2022 was not very lucky for her, as she withdrew with a back injury in her second-to-last start at the Pelican Women’s Championship in November, and managed the pain enough to tie for seventh in the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship.
