Undisputed middleweight champion Savannah Marshall recently signed with the MMA chain Professional Fighters League (PFL). The British boxer has yet to make her MMA debut. Her long-time rival Claressa Shields, who already has two MMA fights under her belt, also competes in the same organization. The two ladies hold one victory each in the duels between them in the boxing ring. Claressa Shields is the only female boxer to beat Savannah Marshall in the professional ring in 14 pro fights. In amateur boxing, Savannah Marshall managed to defeat Claressa Shields once.
“I’ve boxed Claressa Shields and I’m thinking of chasing her in another sport. I’m sure she’s sick of me. Even if Claressa is gone, the PFL deal is too good to pass up. I might as well be done with a broken face, but still, we live once”, said the 32-year-old British boxer Savannah Marshall. “There are many good boxers who have moved to MMA. A good example is Holly Holm. However, MMA is just an adventure for me. The main focus remains boxing. Next year I have mandatory defenses of my titles. I hope to play in the first part of 2024 and then in the summer”, said the bronze medalist from the 2016 World Boxing Championships.
Savannah Marshall is a British professional boxer. She has held world championships in two weight classes: the undisputed and Ring magazine female super-middleweight title since July 2023, and the World Boxing Organization (WBO) female middleweight title from 2020 to 2022. As an amateur, she became the first British female world champion after securing gold at the 2012 World Championships.
