Defending volleyball champion USA continues to defend its Olympic title at the Paris 2024 Games. Karch Kiraly-led team emphatically defeated Poland by 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-20) in the third quarter-final of the women’s volleyball tournament at the Olympics at the South Parry Arena 1.
Thus, the American women advanced to the semifinals, where they will continue to defend their title from three years ago. The USA reached the final four of an Olympic Games for the fifth time in a row, after winning silver in Beijing 2008 and London 2012, bronze in Rio 2016 and gold in Tokyo 2020.
In the semifinals, the USA awaits Brazil, which earlier today easily defeated the Dominican Republic, also with a 3-0 game. The match will be a repeat of the final in Tokyo 2020, when the American team won the game 3:0. The semifinal clash between the USA and Brazil will be on Thursday (August 8).
Poland, on the other hand, will record its best ranking at the Olympics after the two bronze medals won in the first two editions of volleyball at the Games in the distant 1964 and 1968 years. They will share 5/8th place in the final ranking.
Andrea Drews led the USA with 13 points (1 block and 43% offensive efficiency). Avery Skinner (48% offensive efficiency and 53% perfect shooting) and Kathryn Plummer (2 blocks, 2 aces, 32% attacking efficiency and 32% perfect shooting) each added 12 points in the victory.
For Poland, Martyna Lukasik (3 blocks and 39% attack efficiency) and Agnieszka Korneluk (4 blocks, 2 aces and 42% attack efficiency) finished with 12 and 11 points.
