In this way, Italy qualified for the first time in its history for the semi-finals of the Olympic Games. There, Julio Velasco-led girls will face the European champion Turkey, who earlier won very dramatically over China with a 3-2 (23:25, 25:21, 26:24, 21:25, 15:12). For the Turkish team, this will be the also first semi-final at the Olympics. The two teams were together in preliminary Group C, as Italy defeated Turkey 3-0.
The semi-final between Italy and Turkey will be on Thursday (August 8). Before that will be the first semi-final meeting between Brazil and the USA, which will be a repeat of the final of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
On the other hand, Serbia is taking a step back after playing in the final four and winning the bronze medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Now the Serbian team will share 5/8th place in the final ranking.
Above all for Italy was again the star Paola Egonu with 19 points (1 block, 1 ace and 53% attack efficiency) for the victory.
For Serbia, Tijana Boskovic also scored 19 points (1 ace and 42% attack efficiency), but that didn’t help the success either.
