Ons Jabeur fended off three match points to beat Caty McNally 2-1 (6:3, 4:6, 7:6) in the second round of the WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati. The 5th-seeded Tunisian trailed 5:6 in the third set when Caty McNally missed two opportunities to end the match.
In the subsequent tiebreak, the 20-year-old Caty McNally, who is the world’s No 179, was again unable to close the match at 7:6 in her favor. Ons Jabeur won the next three points to triumph in the match after 145 minutes.
In the next round, the Tunisian tennis player will face Petra Kvitova. The Czech player, who is a former two-time Wimbledon champion, prevailed by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3) against the Romanian Sorana Cirstea.
