Jasmine Paolini

Jasmine Paolini is an Italian professional tennis player. She is the current Italian No 1 and has career-high WTA rankings of world No 29 in singles. Jasmine Paolini has won one singles title at the WTA Tour, as well as two singles titles on the WTA Challenger Tour along with eight singles titles in the ITF Circuit.

Jasmine Paolini was born on January 4, 1996, in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Italy. She started in tennis as a kid and showed great talent. As a junior, she triumphed with the title at the 2013 Wilson ITF Junior Classic presented by Wustenrot and played at the Junior Grand Slam.

Jasmine Paolini made her professional debut in 2011 at the $10,000 Florence (Italy), but lost in the first round. The next season, she played at the $15,000 W15 San Severo (Italy) and $10,000 Todi (Italy), reaching the second rounds in both.

In 2013, Jasmine Paolini played her first ITF final, finishing as the runner-up at the $10,000 Rome (Italy), but later during the season won her first title at the $10,000 Locri (Italy). Meanwhile, she reached the semi-finals of the $10,000 Viserba Di Rimini (Italy) and $15,000 Santa Margherita Di Pula (Italy).

In 2014, Jasmine Paolini reached the quarter-final of the $50,000 W60 Burnie (Austria) and won her second ITF singles title at the $10,000 Viserba Di Rimini (Italy), but also was the runner-up at the $25,000 W25 Telavi (Georgia).

In 2015, Jasmine Paolini reached the semi-finals of the $15,000 Santa Margherita Di Pula (Italy) and $25,000 W25 Bath (UK). However, she made her breakthrough during the season in doubles after being given a wildcard into the main draw of the doubles tournament at the WTA 1000 Rome Open, partnering with Nastassja Burnett.

Jasmine Paolini continued playing mainly in the ITF Circuit in singles in 2016 to gain experience. She won the titles at the $25,000 Valencia (Spain) and $15,000 Santa Margherita Di Pula (Italy), but also was the runner-up at the $25,000 W25+H Bad Saulgau (Germany), $25,000 Mamaia (Romania) and $25,000 W25 Clermont-Ferrand (France), as well as reached the semi-finals of the $25,000 W25+H Imola (Italy), and the quarter-finals of the $25,000 W25 Rome (Italy).

In 2017, Jasmine Paolini won her most prestigious title at that time, triumphing at the $100,000 Marseille (France). Later during the season, she won the trophy at the $25,000 W25 Woking (UK) and also reached the semi-finals of the $25,000 W25 Santa Margherita Di Pula (Italy), as well as the quarter-finals of the $100,000 W100 Vancouver (Canada). At the end of the year, she made her WTA main draw debut, playing at the WTA 250 Galaxy Holding Group Guangzhou Open, but lost in the first round.

Jasmine Paolini started the 2018 season playing in the main draw of two WTA tournaments – WTA 250 Shenzhen Open and WTA 250 Abierto Mexicano TELCEL Presentado Por HSBC, but lost in the first round on both. Later, she reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Livesport Prague Open. Meanwhile, during the season she finished as a runner-up at the $25,000 W25+H Bagnatica (Italy) and reached the semi-finals of the $25,000 W25 Santa Margherita Di Pula (Italy).

In 2019, Jasmine Paolini already gained serious experience and started the season strongly by reaching the quarter-finals of the $25,000 W25 Trnava (Slovakia) and $25,000 W25 Sao Paulo (Brazil), before winning another ITF title at the $25,000 W25 Curitiba (Brazil). She played in the main scheme of the WTA 1000 Rome Open and WTA 250 Livesport Prague Open, as well as made her Grand Slam debut at the French Open / Roland Garros, but unfortunately lost in the first round of all the tournaments. In June, Jasmine Paolini won another prestigious ITF title at the $60,000 W60 Brescia (Italy), while during the summer she reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Palermo Ladies Open and WTA 250 Galaxy Holding Group Guangzhou Open and the semi-finals of the WTA 125 Liqui Moly Open Karlsruhe. At the end of the year, she finished as the runner-up at the $100,000 W100 Tokyo (Japan), reached the semi-finals of the $100,000 W100 Shenzhen (China) and the quarter-finals of the $100,000 W100 Szekesfehervar (Hungary). Thus, she entered for the first time into the world’s Top 100 and finished at the world’s No 96.

The short 2020 season seriously stopped the impetus of Jasmine Paolini, while she played in the main scheme of the Australian Open, but lost in the first round. She reached the second round of the WTA 250 Palermo Ladies Open, played again in the main scheme of the US Open and again lost in the first round and reached the second rounds of the WTA 1000 Rome Open and French Open / Roland Garros.

In 2021, Jasmine Paolini reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Gippsland Trophy and the second rounds of the WTA 250 Abierto GNP Seguros and WTA 250 Copa Colsanitas presented by Zurich, before playing her first challenger final at the WTA 125 L’Open 35 de Saint-Malo, but losing to Viktorija Golubic (Switzerland). In June, she won her first title at th WTA 125 Croatia Bol Open, while in September, she triumphed with her most prestigious title at the WTA 250 Zavarovalnica Sava Portoroz. She played in the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Courmayeur Ladies Open and the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Upper Austria Ladies Linz. Jasmine Paolini climbed to the world’s No 53 at the end of the season.

Jasmine Paolini started the 2o22 season by the second rounds of the WTA 250 Melbourne Summer Set II and WTA 250 Adelaide International 2 and reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Open 6eme Sens – Metropole de Lyon. In March, she reached the third round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open and during the Summer she semi-finals of the WTA 250 Palermo Ladies Open and WTA 250 BNP Paribas Poland Open. At the end of the season, she was the runner-up at the WTA 250 Transylvania Open by Verdino and won the title at the $100,000 W100 Les Franqueses del Valles (Spain). Thus, she finished at the world’s No 63, although she climbed to the world’s No 43 during the season.

In 2023, Jasmine Paolini made her strongest season so far. She started by reaching the second round of the WTA 250 Hobart International and the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Open 6eme Sens – Metropole de Lyon. In May, she won the title at the WTA 125 Firenze Ladies Open and during the summer finished as the runner-up at the WTA 125 Makarska Open 125 and WTA 250 Palermo Ladies Open, but also reached the third round of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open (Rogers Cup) and the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open. Jasmine Paolini continued with her great performance and at the end of the season was the runner-up at the WTA 250 Jasmin Open Monastir, reached the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Bank of Communications Zhengzhou Open, and the third round of the WTA 1000 China Open.
