Iga Swiatek win WTA Finals 2023

The second-seeded and former world’s number one Iga Swiatek (Poland) is unstoppable at the WTA Finals in Cancun, reaching her second victory in the groups’ stage after defeating in straight sets the third-seeded American talent Cori Coco Gauff. The Polish tennis player won the match by 2-0 (6:0, 7:5) in 1:30 hours and guaranteed her place in the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament with a prize money of 9 million USD.

Iga Swiatek started the match strongly, winning the first set on zero. Although the result hits for powerless Cori Coco Gauff it was not exactly true, as the first three games of the set were quite contested and each of the serve games for Iga Swatek passed through several deuces. However, after leading by 3:0, the Polish tennis player took control and continued with her great performance, closing the set at 6:0.

The second set started with an advance for Cori Coco Gauff, who reached a break in the third game and took a lead of 3:1. She faced a big problem in the sixth game on her serve and needed to save three breakpoints, but eventually was moving confidently ahead and kept her advance of 4:2. Iga Swiatek equalized in the eighth game to 4:4, but Cori Coco Gauff again broke her to lead by 5:4. However, the Polish tennis played did not retreat and returned the break, but also won her serve game on zero and made another break “on 15”. Thus, she closed the second set at 7:5 and won the match.

Iga Swiatek secured her place in the semi-finals after two wins in the groups, but Cori Coco Gauff will need a win in her last match from the group with Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) to earn the place ahead.
