Arina Averina and Dina Averina

Multiple world and European rhythmic gymnastics champions Arina Averina and Dina Averina had decided to end their careers after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and it took a lot of effort to convince them to stay in the sport, revealed the president of the Russian Federation and head coach of the national team Irina Viner.

“Dina has become a great girl, a great gymnast, an artist. She has no fear, she does everything with pleasure. She herself doubted that maybe it should end already. You can’t imagine how difficult it was for me to convince Dina and Arina to stay in rhythmic gymnastics”, said Irina Viner. “Now they themselves realized that their time has come. Today Dina Averina received a silver medal, but for her it is a diamond, because she doubted for so long, trained a little for so long. But she has a huge talent that allows her to performed brilliantly”, added the president of the Russian Federation.

Today, Dina Averina became second in the all-around with 140.050 points at the Moscow Grand Prix after Lala Kramarenko, who collected 141.650 points. Arina Averina misses the competition due to injury.

Dina Averina is a Russian individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the Tokyo 2020 Olympic All-around silver medalist, four-time (2021, 2019, 2018, 2017) World All-around Champion, the 2018 silver and 2021 European All-around bronze medalist and the 2016 Grand Prix Final All-around silver medalist. Her sister Arina Averina is a Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics finalist, a two-time (2017, 2019) world all-around silver medalist, a two-time European all-around champion (2018, 2021) and the 2016 Grand Prix Final all-around bronze medalist. She is a three-time (2019-2021) Russian national all-around champion and a three-time (2015, 2017, 2022) Russian national all-around medalist.
