Ons Jabeur defeated Marketa Vondrousova at the WTA Finals Cancun

Ons Jabeur WTA Finals win

Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) defeated Marketa Vondrousova (Czch republic) in a match from Group B of the WTA Finals in Cancun (Mexico). The Tunisian player won the match by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3) in 1:30 hours and kept her chances to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament with a prize pool of 9 million USD.

Marketa Vondrousova was more aggressive on the serve and scored 4 aces, but was quite inaccurate and made 11 double faults. On the other hand, Ons Jabeur made 24 winners against 25 unforced errors for her opponent, which made the difference in the match.

The first set started with an early break for the Tunisian tennis player, who took a lead by 2:0. Marketa Vondrousova won her second serve game, which was the longest in the match, and passed through 7 deuces, but without giving a breakpoint to her opponent. She also succeeded in equalizing the score to 2:2 after returning the break, but Ons Jabeur broke again and returned to leading by 4:2. This proved to be enough for her to win the set by 6:4.

Ons Jabeur again started strongly the second set, making an early break and again Marketa Vondrousova equalized to 2:2. However, after the exchange of breaks, the Tunisian tennis player went ahead by 4:3 and after winning her serve made he result 5:3. Thus, Marketa Vondrousova served to stay in the match, but gave two break/match points to her opponent on 15-40, which Ons Jabeur did not missed and won the set at 6:3.

Thus, Ons Jabeur kept her chances to qualify for the semi-finals but needed to win versus the American talent Cori Coco Gauff in her last match from the groups. On the other side, Marketa Vondrousova lost chances to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament, but in her last match will face the second-seeded Iga Swiatek (Poland).
